RVMS Marketing and Promotions Committee
Posted: July 1, 2009 at 11:20 amThe RVMS Marketing and Promotions Committee works to “brand” the unique assets of the Roslindale neighborhood, promoting Roslindale Village’s reputation throughout Boston as a destination for food, entertainment and shopping in order to increase the district’s customer base. The committee organizes and sponsors annual events which help to build community identity while also drawing foot traffic to local businesses.
The Farmers’ Market Planning Committee is an ad-hoc subcommittee of the Marketing and Promotions Committee which focuses on year-round planning, promotion and volunteer coordination for the Roslindale Farmers’ Market.
Recent and ongoing projectsof the Marketing and Promotions Committee include:
- The Roslindale poster series (link), designed by local artist and volunteer Brad Harris to “brand” and promote a sense of pride in the neighborhood. Five posters have been produced since 2008, with several more in the works. Posters can be purchased at the RVMS office; proceeds go to support the organization and the artist.
- The Roslindale Farmers’ Market (link), a weekly community gathering spot from June through October featuring local produce, live music and family activities drawing up to 2,400visitors to the business district each week.
- A Taste of Roslindale, an annual event showcasing local eateries, bakeries and markets while raising funds for community charities.
- The Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony and Egg Hunt, two annual Roslindale family traditions sponsored by RVMS that draw hundreds to Adams Park every November and March.
- Promotional collaborations with local businesses around annual events like the Bay State Model Railroad Museum’s biannual Open House in Roslindale Village, Lilac Sunday in the Arnold Arboretum, and the holiday shopping season.
- A new interactive, blog-based website, designed to showcase Roslindale as a place to live, shop, work and visit, provide information about RVMS’ efforts in the community, and create a “community conversation” to help identify issues and common concerns.
