This Mother’s Day, visitors will flock to Roslindale for the annual Lilac Sunday celebration at the Arnold Arboretum. The day-long festival features tours of the Arboretum’s spectacular lilac collection, dance performances, picnicking (allowed on this special day only), and family activities from 10 am – 4 pm.  What better way to enjoy the celebration than to share brunch or lunch at one of Roslindale Village’s great restaurants (or pack a picnic lunch from the neighborhood’s array of specialty food shops) and walk up the road the few blocks to the Arboretum gates?

On April 8, after a phenomenal turnout of Roslindale supporters at multiple community meetings, the Trustees of the Boston Public Library announced the branches being considered for closing in light of budget shortfalls.  The Roslindale branch was not among them – a huge victory for the Roslindale community, but not the end of the battle by any means.

Two new Roslindale eateries got great reviews recently: Jazz Café and Bar, a Haitian-American bistro on Washington St., on Hidden Boston; and the Arbri Café (which opened recently on Belgrade, serving Albanian cuisine under the chef of the original Café Apollonia) in the Globe.
