Location Roslindale is located in the center of the Southwest corner of Boston, approximately 6 miles from downtown. Abundant in greenspace and characterized by tree-lined streets, Roslindale is an urban neighborhood with a distinctly small-town feel. Its village center, located around Adams Park, offers the convenience of businesses within walking distance for most residents.
Community Events Roslindale Village Main Street hosts a variety of community events throughout the year, including the Roslindale Farmers' Market from June through October (Saturdays at Adams Park from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.), Easter Egg Hunt, Holiday Tree Lighting, Taste of Roslindale and other events to promote the Roslindale Village business district. Many of our events take place in Adams Park, Roslindale's village green, which is maintained by the City of Boston in partnership with RVMS and Roslindale Green & Clean. The Taste of Roslindale is a lively annual fall fundraiser featuring Roslindale's many fine restaurants. The 2009 Taste of Roslindale will be held at St. Nectario's Church in Roslindale Village on Thursday, September 24. The Roslindale Day Parade , a 35-year-old tradition in Roslindale, takes place the 1st Sunday of October each year. It begins at 1 p.m. at Healy Field, winding through the Village and ending with performances at Fallon Field. The Roslindale Arts Alliance sponsors Roslindale Open Studios, featuring over 90 artists in 47 locations, every November. Roslindale Green and Clean, a local volunteer group dedicated to creating and maintaining public greenspace in the community, hosts an annual Roslindale Green Garden Exchange every spring. Education Roslindale offers 6 public elementary schools, 1 public middle school, l private grade school. Roslindale Village is also home to the Boston School of Modern Languages, which brings over 200 graduate students into Roslindale on a daily basis. Traffic Washington Street brings 20,000 cars into Roslindale Village every day. Belgrade and Corinth Streets bring 15,000 cars into Roslindale Village every day, with 1,000 cars per hour between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Medical Roslindale Village is home to the Greater Roslindale Health Center, serviced by the Boston Medical Center and Boston HealthNet. Community Benefits Roslindale has an active Board of Trade and an active Main Street organization that both work to provide a healthy business community and social center. The local police station Area E, Centre Street, West Roxbury actively engages in community policing efforts such as participating in community meetings, and assigning a regular foot patrol in the Village. The Roslindale Community Center has three locations, including the Flaherty Pool, Archdale Community Center, and a newly renovated central facility located in the center of Roslindale Village. Many active civic clubs support the community including the Lions, Rotary, Knights of Columbus, Kiwanis, and Elks clubs. Recreation Harvard University's Arnold Arboretum is one of the Boston's most treasured natural resources and has been providing recreational opportunities for years Fallon and Healy are popular and active recreational fields which host baseball, basketball, street hockey and soccer league games throughout the year. The Roslindale Community Center's newly renovated gym and pool provide great opportunities for exercise throughout the year. The Donald Ross designed George Wright Golf Course is in walking distance for many residents.
