The Butcher Block Sizzles to Raise Money
(Boston, MA)….Four well-known local community members compete in a culinary duel called “The Butcher Block” at the 2 nd Annual Taste of Roslindale, on Thursday, September 18 th, from 630pm-9pm at the Annunciation Church Function Hall, located at 7 V.F.W Parkway, Roslindale, MA 02131.
The evening will feature fabulous food from local restaurants, such as Sophia’s Grotto, Birch Street Bistro, West on Centre, Masona Grill, Geoffrey’s Café, Corrib Pub & Restaurant, A. Boschetto’s Bakery and other notable eateries in Roslindale, West Roxbury, Jamaica Plain and Dedham. Attendees will sample the cuisine of these restaurants, listen to music, bid on great silent auction items and cheer on the Butcher Block dueling chefs – all to benefit three charities.
The fundraiser will benefit the Jason Roberts Challenger League Baseball Field. This league was formed to teach children with physical handicaps how to play the favorite American past time – baseball!
This event will also benefit The Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, which has been involved in many of the major cancer research breakthroughs of the century including mammography to screen for breast cancer, the use of tamoxifen to reduce risk, the development of Herceptin, which has given new hope to patients with invasive breast cancer; and discovery of breast cancer genes. The Babes Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is a local group of women who walk to raise money for the American Cancer Society. www.BabesMakingstrides.com
Other proceeds from this event will be used to help purchase and install permanent holiday lighting in the Roslindale business district. The lighting will provide the community with a festive and enchanting atmosphere during the holiday season. It is with pride that the Roslindale Village Main Street has elected to be the host of this event. The mission of Roslindale Village Main Street is to promote Roslindale Village as an appealing destination and the dynamic center of the community. As a nonprofit organization, it brings together local volunteers, businesses and public agencies to strengthen the Village’s economic vitality, physical appearance and unique local character.
A special food demonstration known as the “Butcher Block” will feature two teams: Boston Mayor Tom Menino and Vinny Marino, restaurateur, board member of Roslindale Village Main Street and life-long supporter of Roslindale, and the second team Charley McCarthy, board member of Roslindale Village Main Street and Susan Wornick, co-anchor of WCVB-TV’s Midday newscast.
