Mary Fields: the First Female African American Star Route Mail Carrier in the United States with Muqeedah Salaam (lecture)  Thursday, April 21, 6:30-7:30 PM  Lecturer and historian Muqeedah Salaam explores the fascinating, unconventional life of Mary Fields, who was the first female African American Star Route Carrier for the United States Post Office. Born into slavery, Mary made her way from Tennessee to Montana where she traveled treacherous terrain with her rifle and stagecoach, delivering mail rain or shine, and earning her the name “Stagecoach Mary.”
