About the event

Come to Solera for an Organic, Bio & Natural Wines tasting on Friday, March 4th from 4:30 - 6:30.

Jeff & Alex from Hangtime Distributor will be here presenting a selection of Organic, Bio & Natural Wines. It is a great opportunity to learn and taste these unique wines from different regions around the world.

What is special about Natural wines and what is the difference between Organic and Biodynamic farming?

Natural wines use little or no intervention and are harvested by hand and processed in a low-tech way. A good way to think about them is that are “alive”. The Winery is simply trying to present the harvest in a pure sense. Intervening with designer yeast, chemicals and lots of “techniques” in the winemaking process would rob the wine of its “natural” potential.

Natural wine has seen an explosive interest in recent times. Consumers looking for healthier options can find common bonds with the approach in these styles. And many winemakers around the world are turning to cleaner, less intrusive winemaking as a way to find honest expressions from their vineyards.

Organic and Biodynamic farming has the same aim of reducing or eliminating the use of harsh chemicals in their vineyards. Biodynamic farming tries to follow a more ancient approach that follows the lunar cycle and tries to use the vineyard’s inherent healing properties to nurture healthy grapes. We will discuss this approach further at the tasting.

THE WINES:

Jean-Pascal Aubron  “Les Bulles” Pet Nat - Loire Valley -  Organic

This is a light, dry, fragrant sparkling wine that is fermented one time in the bottle. This style is called Pet Nat these days but has been around for a long time. Using the same grape you might find in Muscadet, this wine is great with Sushi, oysters, or shrimp dishes.

Kumusha Sauvignon Blanc - South Africa  -  Organic

This is a spicy, tart style of Sauvignon Blanc made by Tinashe Nyamudoka. He is one of the few native black winemakers in South Africa and he has become a true celebrity because his wines are AMAZING. Check it out!

CALA Nero d’Avola - Sicily -  Biodynamic

A wine that is friendly and easy-going. Ripe dark fruit and not a lot of tannin. A great pasta wine and perfect if you are looking for a stylish change from Pinot Noir.

Chateau Jouclary “Tradition” Cabardes, France  -  Sustainable farming

Cabardes is a region that is between Bordeaux and the Rhone. The grapes they use are a mix of the grapes you would find in those regions like Merlot, Cab Franc, Syrah, and Grenache. This is a smooth red that is great for grilled foods.
